Business informatics is an applied structural science which operates in the border region between informatics, cybernetics, systems theory and the social sciences. It deals mainly with the design, the development and the application of instruments for information and communication in business economics. Its aim is to fashion economic, administrative and production processes as efficiently as possible by the optimisation of information and communication structures and routes. Central tasks of business informatics include the management of information, data and knowledge, and the development and management of intra- and inter-organisational information systems.
