Socionics is a young research discipline at the border between sociology and informatics. Its agenda are similar to those of bionics: while bionics endeavours to harness the material and functional properties of the living organism for the construction of technical systems, socionics seeks to transfer the structures and processes of social systems to computer systems. Such computer systems have by now been organised in world-wide networks of computers and are increasingly adopting the character of an electronic “parallel society”. To organise this requires inter alia the development of „electronic agents“, i.e. computer programmes capable of communication and cooperation, ones that can take on independent tasks in computer networks.
